44 morris C8 parts needed

i had a problem with my morris in houston 30 min after it was imported into the USA. hit and run driver.

anyone know if there is a trany and transfer that will fit it and is on this side of the pond??

if not anyond have a way to import one from the UK?

i would like to know if anyone knows if there was a standard transmission for all FATs? if so would one be used for a morris C-8? mine is smashed and i need to see if i can find one on this side of the pond.

If you're talking about the CMP-Type, they are the standard ones from both manufacturers.
Mike Kelly can probably give the definitive MCC answer but I'd be pretty sure it's the same as fitted to other MCC trucks.
Even the Guy Quad Ant FAT has it's own (very peculiar) reversed-pattern transmission.

i dont care if i only have 2WD i just want to get it rolling again keeping the look in the cab the same. someone out there has to have done this before.

and one question for the people from OZ. im getting hitched to a girl from choffs harbor (someplace north of sydney) anyway i want to suprise her when she comes to visit me here in texas for the first time.. how do i get some vegimite????

Can't answer that one - but the CMP has a separate transfer case.

As for the vegemite - just ask Geoff W-B, our fearless leader. I left a supply with him in 2001.

The gearbox in your MCC C8 is a 5 speed job , the transfer case bolts directly to the gearbox .

Your only hope of sourcing a C8 gearbox is the UK . You will search forever to find one in the US . And you won't find any other type that will bolt to the engine unless you make up an adapter plate and use some other gearbox .

There are no other gearboxes that will fit it . the CS8 gearbox is a 4 speed , designed for the 4X2 rear axle with the diff in the centre . Your C8 has off set diffs and needs the transfer case .

Texas has lots of black gooey stuff in the ground Dave , just spread some on some bread , it tastes just like vegemite !

Yes , vegemite does stop oil leaks , it's a multi purpose fix anything OZ invention . You can eat it , use it as a lubricant , it's medicinal properties are legendary .

hi im restoring my 44 morris 15 CWT GS truck that was nearly distroyed last year. anyone have any parts sources for break wheel cylanders, break hoses (front), and shocks?

i need a ball joint for the morris 15 cwt morris GS artillery tractor. its on the steering shaft at the lower end (both the ends are the same). the ball on the lower steering arm is 1in in diamator. i hope the CMP or bedford had the same setup and i hope someone can help. here are some photos.

I'll ask Rory (MCC) Ballard; ask, note. He probably has the largest single stock of M-C parts but also has a few actual vehicles to use (restored) and to work on, so its not a foregone conclusion.

It may well be common to many other things of the period too.

Well, I guess M-Cs are rare in the US especially as you can't just pop down to NAPA and get new bits.

In fact you can't pop down anywhere there and get any bits!!!!

Dunno about C8s being rare though, the MC PU8/2 below is though, being almost as-new and with its correct fit of No. 11 Set (thanks to Mike K) and accoutrements.

However, the restoration cost in GBP would frighten you, let alone $US, and then there's over 5 years uncosted work by a skilled owner starting from the mud upwards. . . . . . . . .

We'll ask anyways but I have no idea at present of availability, shipping will be a killer too. . . . . . . .

Dave - As you have probably figured making this is the alternative to be extremely lucky. What is the diameter of the balls? Then maybe we can identify a set of drag link ends like those on a Model A that could be adapted.

C8s are not too rare, but the bigger 15CWTs 4x4s are another story. from what i understand from brit vets is that they only made them for less then 6 months and then had most of thoes replaced by dodges by 45!!! and the accident rate was crazy for the ones that towed 17 pounders. as soon as they could the bulk of them were given to the new danish army in 46. the danes got em and cruched them as soon as they could replacing them with, you got it dodges.
thats why they are rare.

the pall on the reciver end in 1 inch.

typical (British) drag link ends, NOS. Let me know the
exact measurments.

The drag-link size is odd, 7/8" dia by 16tpi, you need to check the exact thread details and indeed if its a RH or LH thread. If its this size then a housing may be available; there is no parts list here for the C8 but if you have one then the part number can be cross-referred to the PU, CS8 and CDSW lists that are here.

Of note also is that these "sprung" steering joints, commonly found on everything of this era, can be very troublesome, track rod ends included too.

The most horrendous steering flutter can occur and is quite common, on all this British stuff, cars included.

The usual cure, and/or prevention, is to remove almost all the spring action by screwing in the end screw until the ball joint is gripped firmly and the spring is thus coil-bound. Then back it off the absolute minimum to get non-binding movement of the ball and pin the screw in this position.

If an oscillation mode is set up by hitting a road imperfection at the right speed the result is truly frightening, its an experience best avoided at all costs and you will need replacement clean underwear; believe me.

most of the time the people around you need the new clean underware. when on the autobhan in germany the germans would speed up and come up even to the cab to see just who the hell was driving and to flash the finger. imagen a angery and confused german finding a empty seat on that side of the truck.
