Hi, the 18 pdr, like most field pieces has a clip that covers the primers when in transport. These turn up quite frequently and I have a few. They have slots as well to carry a 1/2" cotton on linen tap to allow them to be pulled free from the round easily. Does anyone have a drawing or photograph of this tape and its shape and length?

The tape, known as a becket was a loop that crossed over in the middle and was secured by a rivet or stitched in the centre of the crossover.
