Default Somebody will have to back up

"Corsica, France. May 1944. Somebody will have to back up. Airmen of No. 451 (Spitfire) Squadron RAAF, which is operating from a base at Poretta airfield in Corsica, find the narrow twisting roads of the new country a different proposition to the wide open space of the Western Desert."

I wonder if that explains the bandaged head on one of the bystanders?

The CMP has a RAF air recognition roundel on the roof, but what's on the Dodge?

Any idea what the fitting on the rear midline of the CMP cab roof line is all about?

Looks like a pair of 10 inch vertical posts with a tube across the top. I initially though it was related to the roof hatch in some way but it appears to be well aft of the swing arc of the hatch.

That is a sun compass mount, if I am not mistaken.
