Greetings all. I’m new to MLU but have fount the articles and insights quite helpful thus far.
I have an M151A2 CDN that I’m trying to get back to stock CF early 80s. Whomever did the initial restoration (by that I mean the guy that welded it back together - straight as an arrow, I must say) repainted it in black and CARC green cam (that has to change), but also put on the rear corner radio antenna mount that belongs on a US veh. I’ve managed to make new brackets and install the mirrors on the fenders and acquire an Ansul extinguisher and bracket, but now I need to focus on correcting the comms setup. I’m looking to see if anyone would know where I could locate the proper mount that sits on the spare tyre mount, or even just the snaller ones that mount to the plates on the back of the ROPS cage. Need to make sure my 9-er’s rover looks the part. I’m also interested if anyone has insights on where or if an SMG stowage bracket was typically installed in M151A2s. They went out of service 18 months before I joined the CF, so all my experience has been with CJ7 (briefly) and the Iltis. Thanks! |

I have spares of the tall bracket that goes over the spare tire mount. I also have some of the ones that go onto the top corners. You could also find the corner brackets on the body to mount the AMU, however once the roll cages were installed on the vehicles, you could run into a problem with the antennas banging into the cage. I purchased 30 M151A2s back in the day, and 4 still had the corner brackets on them.
Re the SMG bracket, there was not a modification instruction to install them, although they were occasionally installed. Today things like that would be known as an illegal modification, but back then modification of the vehicles was a lot more loose. |

Congrats and greetings from another '74 Pattern owner. I estimate there are about 2 dozen M151A2s (give or take) back on the road in Canada. So, take that scrappers!
There are a couple unique Canadian parts compared to US productions. The roll cage is squarer and has fewer connections for the CF. The radio set ups aren't much different inside, but the antenna base is different. Rob Love's offer of one from his scrap pile is worth taking. There is a FB group for M151A2 owners. If you search look for one with Eric Booth as the admin. A word of caution. There are a lot of historic vehicle owners who go overboard loading their rig with everything shown on someone's checklist. In my time in the service (Reserves '76 to '82), there was very little EIS kit issued for our '74s beyond a tool bag and tarp. The ANSUL extinguisher and SMG bracket were two correct additions.
