Cdn MK II * Radiator overflow tank
Hi folks . Got this rad overflow tank from a friend about 1 year
ago . I got it overhauled to new condition in a radiator shop. I am picking it up tomorrow . Prime and paint will follow . I will show the results . Q: How / where do you route the tubing to the radiator thermometer / pressure relief cap on top of the rad ? I can’t find the reference drawing for this can and tubing in the parts manual . I see some variation in the overflow department , some using 2 gal cans on the rear deck . How are MK I ‘s connected ?

I just picked up the condenser can from the shop. Here is what it looks like now . Completely serviceable now . For those who have asked , i will take measurements this evening when i make it home to make it easier for you to reproduce it. Cheers .

5 inches exactly between the holes or 125 mm. Check the holes in your div plate to be sure they are the same as mine, i have a 1944 Cdn MKII * . The other bracket hole is in the middle of these . Part number for the «*tank assembly -overflow «* is C31UCW 8081 and you need 3 X 5/16 bolts to bolt it to the division plate. Best to remove the tool box at the bottom to access the lower center bracket / bolt . You will have to lift the gunner’s seat out of the way for the upper and lower bolts . Now to find 1/2*inch vacuum hose . All part numbers are on page 126 .

The condenser can part # 8081 as i just installed it under the passenger seat .

I routed the rubber hose down along the radiator and under the division plate to finally connect it to the can elbow tightly fitted with a plumbing collar . Good fit and serviceable until i find an original connector . The floor tool box is in place with no interference with the hose . Now i can travel safely in the Sahara desert with no fear of losing precious coolant fluid or water .It was so much fun . Thanks Dave .

My expansion can was just as bad as yours so I got a complete new one made from Stainless Steel as hopefully I'll never have to remove it again. I'll try and take a closer look tomorrow as I fancy that there is a copper pipe there???

Friends , from what i have seen in my Carrier : 1/2 inch Rubber hose from the spout out of the thermostat for about 12*inches or so . Then there is a small bracket and adapter / fitting . From the adapter connects a copper / steel tube about 3/8 inches diameter hard to say because it’s snuggled between the division wall , the radiator and the shroud . I saw the pipe go down quite a ways towards the bottom . it was cut off and spilling fluid on the floor in summer . So what i need to know now is : rubber hose or metal tubing to the condenser can from there ?

The parts manual states there is hose and pipe( tube assembly ) for the overflow system.

Robert, I've just been poking around in mine with a torch and flash camera.
In the corner of the radiator housing is a special brass elbow bolted to the division plate. Then a straight length of 5/16" copper pipe which bends round to meet the expansion can fitting (1/4 BSP). Ron

Thanks a lot Ron . Clear as mud now . While we are in that area of the Carrier , what is that bracket i circled used for other than holding the seat ? Why is there a hole drilled into it ?
