Default R.C. Signals Canada Type DM-1

I'm wondering if anyone can help identify what this item was used for? I have two of these, both items are marked the same but are from different molds as the inscription on one is less pronounced. Both were manufactured by Electro-Voice, South Bend, Indiana, U.S.A. and are well stamped with the C-Broad Arrow.
If these are not 19 set related and they can find a good home, I'd be interested in trading these for something.
Cheers,
Patrick
