Default how to do an oil change

I drained the oil from the differential of my M5 high speed tractor today. I'm not sure though if draining the oil from the diff also drains the oil from the transmission. Is it a separate compartment?

I also found the drain nuts had a hex in them. They do not appear to be an imperial socket. Would they be BSW?
