Clip on engine for???

I have this clip on my 216 engine. Front upper left corner? What is this for???

The fuel pipe clips into it.

Not in that position, if it was on thermostat top bolt maybe. too close to manifold heat and no reason to go below rocker height to carby.

My clip is on a water pump stud behind the accelerator linkage. My pipe has been bent towards the radiator above the linkage so an inline filter could be added by a previous owner.
