looking for headlights for my Diamond T. Apparently GMC use the same headlight bucket. Are Studebaker US6 the same? Can anyone do a comparison for me?

The head light buckets are different between US6 and CCKW. The main differences are how the lens assembly mounts into the bucket and therefore how the rim mounts, and the rivets for the mount either come from the bottom/outside or from the inside, out. (hope that last bit makes sence)

As Darrin says, the CCKW and US6 headlights are different in the rim or door as the Americans refer to it. The Corcoran Brown light used on the Stude has a rim that is flatter than the Guide that is used on the GM and it is a complete circle. The rim used on the Guide is split and uses a clamping screw. The light assemblies will interchange as the mounting is similar.
Something you should be aware of if swapping lights between vehicle types is that some 7" headlights appear to be very similar to the CCKW/US6 headlights but have a reversed mounting arrangement. Instead of the ball/convex on the truck and the cup/concave on the light they have the ball on the light and the cup on the truck. I don't recall the Diamond T but I think the Mack may be the reverse mounting to CCKW/US6. David

Mack's (NR's at least) had two kinds of mounting. With a ball and with a cup. Can't say yet what one was early and what was late.
Remember only I have brackets of the one and lights of the other (I'm in a sorrow of they are rotted through). Headlight bodies have brand mark stamped on a top, need to look in the shed. |
