The Royal Canadian Air Force was called in when a B.C. woman found a First World War explosive shell — still live — while clearing out her house.
Members of 19 Explosives Disposal Flight (19 EDF) were deployed to the home near CFB Comox, on Vancouver Island. They found a 37mm high-explosive round used in "quick-firing" guns. It was still live despite being nearly 100 years old.

"Military ordnance can be extremely dangerous, particularly if it is old," said Lt. Jorge Parra-Martinez, 19 EDF commander.

Members of the squadron are trained to recognize and dispose of ammunition and explosives. They safely destroyed the shell and defused the situation.
