Well just got back from sunny Lincoln had a fab time at Martyns.. Rang him during the week and asked if there was any tinkering to be had on his carrier, of course he obliged and so Fraser and I drove down to see him. got to change out some track on both sides, watch him strip and assemble a carb and replace his glacis plate, and have a quick blast up the lanes to boot.
i can say hand on heart that Martyns British Mk2 rebirth has turned out well, she drives like a dream, can turn on a sixpence even in third gear and a round of applause is in order for his build. I have got some short movie clips which i will pop up on Youtube and link to here so you can laugh at me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBRUbPT2OeU me driving Martyn having a good chuckle, my legs fully extended could only just get the clutch right in, changing from 2nd to 3rd, but at least i didnt stall her. (second two are still processing so will add later) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKDSbl-Adn0 around the back of the sheds then though a narrow gate with that deep breath "Haaaargh" i got through, Martyn still laughing hahaha and Finally Fraser taking the pee out of me shouting to make sure he was in the back ok before i pulled away.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4TBdntydwc Richie

HAHAHA i could not believe how much it picked up !! imagine during wartime through Arnhem or france ! the running gear would become blocks of solidified mud and bush in no time at all methinks hehehehe. still pondering on my colour scheme, needs to Be Italy campaign or Scicily, or North Africa...... i saw a cool scheme which was sand base with terracotta pattern however the terracotta was outlined by a thin white and black border..... looked realy cool, not sure where it would have been used though.

Looks great and I love the sound these things make. Is it just me or does it seem to sit nose down a tad bit?

she does a wee bit but there is bot all in the back only one tank which was half filled, no back plate or tool plate or engine covers etc etc and two lads sat right forward in the front would imagine this may make her tilt a touch, i think i managed to bottom her out on the nose after a hard braking manouver (balls up) so i hope i have not damaged her !

Hi my carrier is a bit high at her rear end think its just just becouse its still bedding in the rear springs, when i replaced the springs i matched them up and found 4 pairs that were longer than the others by 1 coil so i put them on the rear as thort the enging and axle would pull her down lower? think like richard says when ive got all the engine bay filled and the tanks in and bits on the rear and a few brave soles in the rear that should take care of it, Also its not armoured plate.
Richard you owe me a scratch on yours when its all painted hahahaha I watched a top 10 military vehicle thing on youtube and the carrier was number 7 you should see some of there driving what you did with mines nothing mate . Last edited by martyn; 30-11-09 at 21:24. |

hmm thanks. thats interesting about the spings having 1 extra coil in them. I guess my spings are a bit worn out then. I have all mild steel plate except for the front armour which is original. However I have most of the bits in it and they concentrated on the back half.

I think you may need to remember that these carriers are probally shifting into 2nd gear. Good reason for the front end to pull up? Aidan

You have the wrong springs in the wrong end.
Rear springs=TL126=9 3/4 coils= 9.4 to 9.6 inches long Front springs= TL332= 10 1/2 coils=10.22 to 10.42 long Inner springs are the same both ends. Just a minor error in a job well done. Congrats.

The sand and teracotta scheme that you mentioned, reminds me of Nigel Watsons MK1. I believe his is depicted as an Indian Regt. That his Father was an officer in. Ron

Yes Nigels carrier is awesome and it really stands out, i have purchased Mike Starmers books for Italy and Desert Schemes so will pick one appropriate tomy grandads time, it will be marked up as a 5thDiv or 46th Div carrier either way. i justwant a paint scheme that touch different......... of course if i go over to the Arnhem trips with Martyn and Co. it would look a tad wierd being in a caunter carrier when everyone else is in green.
