When Ken McKenzie finished his combat service with the Calgary Highlanders in 1945, he travelled down the Lines of Communication of the 21st Army Group with his camera. Presented here for the benefit of scale modellers, reenactors, vehicle collectors, set decorators, computer game modders and other hobbyists are 70 pages and over 100 contemporary photos showing a wide variety of the "signs of war" visible in Northwest Europe in 1944-45.
Link for ordering (requires a log-in) is at: http://www.lulu.com/content/2839505 It's a print on demand site, and they have printers located in both the US and in Europe, depending on where you are shipping to. The preview on the site is not the quality of the output. I've done books through this service before and the final product is generally of high quality, but orders that are received damaged, improperly printed, etc., need to be followed up through the printer rather than me. There are over four dozen unpublished photos by Ken McKenzie whom I had the privilege of talking to by phone last weekend. He had been a junior officer in the Calgary Highlanders, and at the end of the war, having been admitted to the bar in 1939, was selected for No.1 Canadian Court Martial Centre. He was a bit of a photography nut and took some really great pictures of road signs, as well as damaged buildings, field graves, etc. - "signs of war" - which he donated to the regimental museum. I've gotten permission to publish them, and have augmented them with photos from Library and Archives Canada, Imperial War Museum, Calgary Highlanders Archives, Milart Archives and some other sources, in all over 100 contemporary photos and 70 pages in large 8-1/2 x 11 format. ![]()
