Default Holley carb

I reluctantly parted with my NZ LP2a project recently. Amoungst some of the gear I accumulated over the years is a Holley 855DD carburetor. I can't find any info on the cast iron beastie and want to re-home it where it will be utilised. The chap I bought it from says its off a Carrier. I am guessing possibly Lloyd? It ran well on my Mercury V8 before I pulled the engine from the truck. Any ideas appreciated. Cheers, Brent.

I shall do Ron, as soon as I work out HOW to post images in this forum....A carrier friend sent me this link...lots of great images.
Do they have to be uploaded to somewhere else on the net prior to landing here?

In the general info is a section on posting images.
The gist is you can attach a single image via the "choose file" button below the text box when you post or you can attach multiple images which have been uploaded to a server using the "img" button above the text box. If you're attaching images from another site always credit the source.

HTH, Keith.

Thanks Keith.
The image is of 'my' carrier (past tense now, sob) the day I bought it home, just prior to loading onto an RL bedford (thanks Gavin).

Brent, we spotted your listing on TradeMe. Note that this not just a vehicle based forum, we'd could also an WS19 and ZC1 wireless expert.
Re the Holley. Any English designed vehicles like the Loyd would be more likely to have used English carbs as used on English Fords, such as Solex. Being a Holley, this would indicate a vehicle of US/Can origin. Anyone with a Windsor/T16 parts list?

Yes Ron, the new owner is planning a restortaion. He already owns an LP2 he purchased, restrored and wants to complete my project. He has the finances to achieve it. I agree, the original purchase was a great find. Very little cut from the hull with lots of the original fittings still intact. Over the following 15 years I obtained alot more original parts.

Thanks Tony, a Windsor/T16 makes alot of sence. I was focased on lend lease parts. The American production facilities produced alot of parts for we Colonials. Certainly even the 'iconic' (in New Zealand) ZC1 transciever had a multitide of American and Canadian internal parts.

Default Carb

Hi Brent, I think your carb has zip to do with Carriers, I believe it is a post war bus carb. Someone must be able to shed some light on this.
Anyhow, Welcome to the forum, Shame you didn't get here before. you may have gotten (hate that word)all excited, and rebuilt the carrier!
Are you by any chance the guy who I traded a small pile of new carrier parts to in excange for a Canadian carrier manual?

Gidday Lynn,
Yes thats me. I mentioned to Robin B today that I still 'owe' you a couple of foldouts from that manual. There here, safe and sound, somewhere. Email me at home, brent@paradise.net.nz, and I shall get them posted up to you. I lost track of folks when I let my membership slide with the MVCC.

Thanks for your input on the Carb. I'll leave it a wee while and see if anyone here comes up with any answers then try and and sell it on T, undoubted there are dudes out there who collect Holley Carbs.

Default carrier carbureator

Brent,
The carbureator is for a Windsor carrier. It is very similar to the T-16 carb, but is set up for a manual choke, whereas the T-16 has an automatic choke, and does not need the complicated linkage. I have NOS carbs for the Windsor if anyone is interested. Rod Shaver

many thanks Rod,
Identifying all this wonderful military kit has been made so much 'easier' with access to collectors around the globe.

I figured it was a Mil Carb because of the Cast iron 'bullet proof' casting, similar to the brute produced for my WC56. (another huge project in itself).

At the very least I can now advertise it with surety of its lineage.

Thanks agin to the contributers of this thread.

Brent.

btw, is there a buy/sell/swap portion for MLU or do we advertise via this forum?

Default Carb

It is interesting in that I dont think there have been any Windsor carriers in New zealand , but there seems to be a few of these carbs floating around the country. (I have one myself)

Brent, if you look towards the bottom of the main forum page, you'll see a buy/sell/swap subforum...

I presume this is the T16 carb, then?

Default T-16 carb

Hanno,
This looks like a T-16 carb. It is missing the small connector for the arm going down to the auto choke. The only difference I can see between the T-16 carb and the Windsor carrier carb, is the windsor had a manual choke set-up. Otherwise they are identical externally. Rod

Another has turned up on TradeMe.

I think these were also used on the F5, F6 and F7 trucks of the mid-fifties?

Hello: i´m the argentine that heve the t16, after long time inactive, i back to the work. I must change the engine, because the original can´t repair. I bougth an engine of truck ford 46, I need the carburetor, and desire to obtain the original one of T16 .In a military manual it appears like holley 885DD, in other one like holley 855DD, whichs the right one?. Between the carburetor and the mainfold intake takes a kingseeley governor, as speed constrainer. Can you help me to find one of these, complete, and in condition of it uses.?
I find in Ebay the carburetor of the attached pics, but the seller don´t response me. He say Holley R 136, in my manuals, the number body is R 138 A. Is the same one?. Best regars, i´m very grateful for your help in the past. Best regards. Juan
Hi Juan,

Good to hear you are back working on the T16. Other than the information contained in this thread, I know nothing about the Holley carburettor for the T16´s engine.
I´ve posted this message here as I´m hoping the T16 owners on this forum can help you find what you need.

Regards,
Hanno

Default 855 Dd

Hi: i´m a new member, i have a T16, and the complete original manuals. The Holley 855DD is the T16 carburetor, it have an hole nearest the air intake, for conect the carburetor whit the automatic choque, one of the greatest differences between the T16 V8 , whit others V8, the civilians have manual choque. it´s possible that the windsor don´t have too.
The 855 have a King Seeley governor, it limit the engine speed, and an plate adapter, whit an othe entry.
I´m find one carburetor like this to my T16 E1.
If someone have one, or can help me to find one, í will be very gratefull.
Best regards

G'day all,
Can anyone tell me if the Holley 885DD with the auto choke was used only on T16 carriers or were used in other mil or civvy trucks?

Luke
