Hi All,
Through the efforts of Brian Asbury, I have found a "penthouse" tent attachment to go with my M-152. We believe all the parts are there, but I am wondering if anyone has any pictures or possibly even some sort of instructions on setting the "penthouse" up with the 3/4. I plan on spreading it out in the shop in the next week or so when the weather warms up a bit more and give it a go. Any help or memories would be appreciated.

I've set up the Penthouse for the MLVW a few times. And I may even have the tech manual, but they are quite different sized vehicles.

I had bits and pieces for the 3/4 ton penthouse over the years, but never enough to do the setup, or even comprehend what I was up against. All gone now though. There are remnants of a M152 body out back that have some strange clips on the sides that could well be for a penthouse.

I'll give it a try, but currently the truck is still surrounded by 3 feet of snow. Remind me in a couple of weeks (by then the snow should be down to a reasonable level) in case I don't follow through.

Sorry brother. I sometimes forget the armpit of the world part. We were +10 today and going up to +16 tomorrow. Out working on the deuce. I will remind you in a couple of weeks. Hang in there. It can't snow forever.

We might be the armpit, but today Winnipeg is the but* cr***. More snow for them.....almost makes me feel better. Todays high here will be +1 but the daily averages for this time of year are supposed to be +11. Our highs this year have barely met what the average low is supposed to be.
This time last year I had already been sandblasting and painting for a month. Re your forecast temperatures: "We were +10 today and going up to +16 tomorrow" perhaps later you should go downtown and tell the panhandlers how good your supper was last night. Pretty sure they don't want to hear it either. We are starting to get cranky here on the prairies. I notice Derk or the other guys from Manitoba have not been posting much lately. On a serious note, still lots of the steps out at the scrapyard. Just have to wait for the snow to recede. |

OK...new twist to the penthouse saga. we layed all the pieces out today and tried to put it together with out the manual. We had some success as can be seen in the attached photos. Obviously it is not a penthouse, but it is kinda different. We are not even sure it is for the 3/4. My buddy thinks it might go better on the back of an M-220 (which I just happen to have). By the pictures, can anybody shed some light on this mystery?

From the Canadian Government Catalogue of Material dated Aug of 1984:
NSN 2540-21-858-2850 : Blackout porch kit, applicable truck, shop van, 2-1/2 ton M220 One of these days the bulb on my old microfiche reader is going to quit and I won't be able to look these things up anymore. By the way, the CFR on the door of the Dodge appears to be missing the last digit. |

My experience is with the MLVW Special Equipment Vehicles (SEV) office "box" and their penthouses. The SEV sits inside the ordinary truck box and the tailgate drops to access a conventional back door. The penthouse has a porch roof over the door and tailgate, a sloped roof for the stairs, and several flaps and wraparound baffles for light discipline, before transitioning to a modular tent end-section.
The blackout curtain photographed is much smaller than anything I have seen. So I had to remind myself of the layout of the Deuce and a Half shop trucks. Such a narrow tent made me wonder if there weren't expanded metal grill walkways around the truck. As for the truck at the link, this does not appear to be the case. So, is this blackout curtain just for the main door and tailgate? http://olive-drab.com/idphoto/id_photos_m220.php

Hey Rob,
Numbers will be fixed when I paint. The truck was owned by an old dutch guy who just wanted to celebrate the Canadian Army. None of the markings are correct. Mechanical, body, paint, in that order. And have fun while doing it, right.

Dan: Was that the truck that once was owned in Brampton, then sold to someone who had it at the St Thomas air show about 3-4 years ago?

I don't know if it ever was in Brampton, but I had it at St Thomas a few years ago. I was set up beside the modern Sigs guys.
