| W-1 kits

I've seen them on EBay - may need one myself soon. I have a saved search for Carter W-1 Carburetor, just checked now, a few carbs, but no kits at the moment.

I had forgotten about Chevs of the 40s, also: The Filling Station has kits, US$39.50 for the earlier W-1 kit: www.fillingstation.com American Classic Trucks has a W-1 kit for US$34.00 www.americanclassic.com I have bought parts from all of the above.

I've found using thin cork sheet 1/16" approx. , is best for making new gaskets ..super crap auto, the chain store here, sell it..its a mix of cork and modern neoprene granules pressed together ,,its the only stuff that i found seals petrol effectively BTW the Carter W1 is tricky to set up..the Rochester, released in 1949 as a replacement for the carter ..is far superior MIKE

There are two versions of the Rochester ..the 216 type has a smaller throttle throat diameter , and probably different jets , compared to the 235 version... Ive seen some with what looks like a auto choke as well . They are very simple with nothing to adjust . Twin floats . Mike

There are definitely automatic choke Rochester B carbs. The B was used on quite a few other engines in addition to the 216, 235, 261 series over the years. Check out the Old Car Manual Project web site at http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/ for quite a bit more information.

| Still shaking my head

Thanks Mike, Grant & Andrew, 3 Days ago I knew nothing about about these Carbies. Now Ive got access to info that will make me seem like an expert. MLU is only as good as the people on it and judging by this info it will be the best forum with great people for a long time to come. GT
