Default Swap meet

I was out and about and the local MV club swap meet was on.

The info on the White scout car as I was informed: it was only recently sold through a Govt. auctioneers . It was kept in storage on a army base and was used into the 1970s as a parade ground vehicle, there is a door cut into the rear for easier access for the 'Generals' to climb aboard.

Default Tracked truck

I am a little surprised that nobody commented on the hull that is sitting in the rotary jig.

It a 'Tracked Truck' undergoing a restoration. A prototype for a all terrain cargo carrying vehicle .

There is a comprehensive 'test' report available online , one of many trial or test reports on equipment, these reports are held in the National Archives of Australia.

Go to the NAA site: naa.gov.au Do a search 'test report'

Default Another Aussie dud

Project didn't go beyond the user trials phase: all the combat-experienced potential users in NG dubbed it "not a service requirement".

From what I can see, the tracked truck was used to rescue the Weasel on trial in the mud. Exerts from the test report below. Unfortunately the photo quality is not the best.

Appears that at least some of the trials were held on a tidal mud flat, it looks like a very sticky glue pot.

Euan mentioned that Puckapunyal museum has the other surviving 'Tracked Truck'

The tidal mud flats were at Lang Lang, head of Western Port Bay.

Yikes!

That would certainly put pressure on recovery teams to unstick vehicles before the tide came back in!
