The existing 5/4T shelters, were known as the multi-purpose van bodies (MPVB) and put through a life extension program. The refurbishment was carried out by Correctional Services Canada at three institutions across the country through sponsorship by the Life Cycle Materiel Manager. This effort enabled the MPVBs to remain serviceable well beyond the year 2000. Prior to the installation of MPVBs onto the LSVW chassis, some additional work by the contractor was required. The existing four point mounting system was replaced by six mounting points in order to mate to the LSVW chassis. The new mounting system featured vibration dampening and was common to the cargo and utility body styles.
