How to trace a Canadian father
I am trying to help a friend to find out more about the father she never knew.
My friend was born, illegitimate, in September 1945, and was told by her mother that her father was called Freddie Giroux, and was serving in a tank regiment based at Seaford, Sussex, UK. It was believed that Freddie was a French Canadian, possibly from Quebec.
At the time of my friend's birth, her mother was 35 years old, and her father was 30 years old.
She was also told that her parent's relationship had gone on for 5 years, but after the pregnancy was discovered, Freddie refused to talk to her mother, and the only communication was through the army.
We know that this a long shot, but any information that can be discovered will be very much appreciated. Is there perhaps a database of French Canadians that were serving in a tank regiment based in Seaford, Sussex?
