Hanno:
Good observation, it is even more complicated in the US.
Volvo Truck Corp. now owns the following US nameplates.
White
GMC
Autocar
Mack
Renault, who bought Mack
Volvo had to spin off the Mack/Renault municipal truck business due to monopoly considerations but I believe they are still connected somehow.
Daimler-Chrysler owns these.
Freightliner
Sterling (ex Ford)
Western Star
As an American, I am a bit saddened by the fact that little of our so called Class 7 & Class 8 trucks are made by "American" companies today.
On the other hand, as an "honorary Swede, thanks to Stellan" I am happy that my former employer of many years, Volvo, has a big part of the US heavy truck market. Not that happy about the Daimler-Chrysler stuff but business is business.
