Well for some time now I have been searching for a nice sectioned 25 pdr base (smoke) ejection round to add to my collection, but to no avail.
So I got to thinking about making my own ,I was down at a mates place last Friday who has an outstanding and very comprehensive collection of 25 pdr rounds and he was kind enough to let me rummage through his spares box and I found three spent No3 smoke cannisters.
I had in the back of the shed a nice fired BE round and thought it a good candidate so decided to give it a go , the saying 'measure twice, cut once ' came to mind.
The cannisters needed quite a bit of work ,filling ,painting etc but all in all turned out just as I had hoped.
Last piece of the puzzle was last night when my wife stitched up a charge bag and she was so thrilled to do it...……
………...not !
Anyway a few pics of the process.
