Default Chevrolet Holden Tray Sides

Hello All,

It is Sunday night - not much on TV .... if I went out to my truck now the mosquitoes would eat me alive. So ...

I visited the Australian War Memorial Online Collection and found a close up photograph of the sides of a 1941 + Chevrolet Holden Truck that shows the sides of the tray.

First question: Is the curved section at the very top of the two sides a length of sheet metal that acts as a guard for the tarpaulin?

Second question: I zoomed in and it looks like the headboard behind the cabin and the side has mesh fixed to it. Is this fibre netting like a fishing net or is it, or is it a steel mesh?

Third question: were these standard fit for the era so therefore could the 1939 to 1940 trucks be fitted with the same mesh? So far I have only found photographs of fully tarped vehicles of just bare tray backs.

The trucks seem to be have a camouflaged paint scheme. Could be my eyes playing tricks on me? Of late that is not too hard at all. The three trucks do not have roof hatches either.

it is a shame that all the truck photographs from the Australian War Memorial's collection do not have the ARN so clearly displayed as the first truck does! It would certainly make truck identification easier for us.

Kind Regards
Lionel
