I dont understand the bit about the straps?
. . . that bin we are discussing has two compartments, the forward section has a hinged lid. That section was designed to hold tracer rounds.

The bin is open on the bottom but for three sections or ‘straps’ of steel that cross side to side with the six fasteners passing through, two per strap.

Both front compartment stowage bins mounted on the left and right track guards are mounted on separate metal plates. As Jordan sez: 1/4”. Unlike the deep wood packing strips found in the rear compartment under the large open top bin and kit locker.
