As far as I can see, your C8GS is from the first contract, which was in 1944. If you think that it should have had a wooden body, it could easily have been swapped during overhaul, or sometime since. I think that the details on your rebuild plate mean as follows;
MTRS ; Mechanical Transport Repair Scheme
B385 ; was an Army Auxillary Workshop, which was actually contractors who repaired and overhauled for the government, usually garages and others in the motor trades. have never found the list of who they were, despite trying REME Museum, reckon the Public Records Office is the only chance of finding out.
