I know this was the place to ask my question. I also knew that in addition to the answer I would learn some other useful stuff as well, like the fact that the White scout car also used the JXD engine. When I build my third Studebaker truck I may contrive to leave the engine out for one of my scout car models.
That gray is a surprise. I have photos of tank engines in which the engine block and transmission housing (one would think that, as an ex-ordnance officer, I'd be better with the technical bits) were a green somewhere between zinc chromate and what I loosely call industrial green, a kind of light/medium green. I have some photos of half-track engines whose colors I cannot not now recall. Back to the books.
The photo also gives me a few details I will need to add.
