Chev engine cover differences
I have an engine cover similar to Jordan's. The previous owner had started to modify the truck to left hand drive by moving the left hand upright that the engine cover clips into inboard. This weekend I welded the upright back into it's proper place and trial fitted the engine cover into place. All of the left edge mated up well, the right edge caused puzzles. It stood about 3/4" clear of the upright. Jordan's cover has a notch for the upper securing clip that would let it sit flush to the upright. My cover doesn't seem to have been modified to fill in a notch and it doesn't seem likely that they would have made 2 different cabs to fit 2 different engine covers. On my cover the scoop on the lower front right face falls in the same place as the lower retaining clip on the cab frame. I also noticed that the bulge on the right side that Jordan was asking about made for much better clearance for the spark plug wires and would help with spark plug changes with the cover on.
Has anyone else got the notch on the front right hand side of a cover like Jordan's?
Has anyone noticed different placement of the clips on the cab framework?
Has anyone got theories on what the scoop at the leading edge right is for? Cooling? Filling the cab with engine fumes? Letting a tube pass through for wading, there was earlier speculation that the openings on the top of the cover were for wading?
Comments please.
