Acco Tune up
Hi Pete
The point Gap for the Bosch Distributor is 0.012 to 0.016 thou of an inch .
Ignition timing can be checked and adjusted using either method ,
1. A power timing light attached to no 1 spark plug lead and the flashing light shone into the window of the clutch housing while the engine is idling ( slow ). The stobe light should freeze an image of a steel ball on the rotating flywheel and it should line up with a stationary pointer on the housing .
If this is not correct the distributor can be loosened and rotated to achieve the line up . Note, it may be advanced a few degrees with the use of todays fuels ie , the steel ball showing before the pointer .
2. Connect a tacho to the coil , bring engine revs up to approx 2000 r/min by adjusting the idle speed screw at the base of the carby . loosen distributor clamp bolt so as to allow distributor to be rotated by hand , rotate dist clockwise and revs will fall off , now rotate dist anti clockwise until tacho reaches its highest reading and not fall off , do this several times to establish the highest rev reading and when satisfied lock up the dist bolt and reset the idle speed , 450 r/min .
Road test to see if ping occurs at low speed , full throttle in top gear , if so retard timing until pinging disappears .
Regards
Jim s.
