Default I suspect reason for battery box relocation

I suspect that relocating the battery box out of the cab may even been common in the military because of the difficulty in removing the engine dog house panels.
Back when I was fabricating a new engine side panel I discovered that it was necessary to remove the transmission cover to remove or install the engine side cover. To remove the transmission cover it is necessary to unbolt the battery box from the mounts. I can see after doing this only once or twice you would relocate the battery to the running board bracket.

Interesting Peter that your box is fabricated differently from one of the boxes that I have, also I discovered that the two boxes I have are slightly different in dimensions. Probably differences from suppliers as I’m sure that these small parts were farmed out to small sheet metal shops.
