Others share your view, but few go as far as one young punk did at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at National War Monument here in Canada's capital city.
On July 1st, this young "man" decided to relieve himself on the Tomb, to the applause and cheering of a number of his compatriots. He was photographed in the act by a retired officer. This act set off a debate over security at the monument. See

The local talk radio show had callers suggesting punishments, with the majority indicating that because the young lad was probably under the influence of some drug or alcohol, he should be given a pat on the wrist.
I think a suitable punishment for the young lad would be to do community time at the Perly-Rideau veterans' home. There he could try to explain his actions and to learn of the significance of the Tomb.
Any other suggestions?
