Have you told him you were thinking more around $300? If you haven't do so and you never know. If he says thats too high then split the difference and go for $400.
Another thing to think of, what would you pay for all those parts that the C8A has individualy. Would it be higher/lower then the $500?
Like Chris says, it is hard to get a standard price.
Another thing to think about is how easy is it to recover. If you have to clear lots of brush away maybe you can get a better price.
