Thanks for your reply David and the website on engine numbers which I will find useful.
I have since found some data on the chev engines made in the USA in their war years .
56128 l/duty trucks ( pick ups )
205 293 medium duty trucks
65000 heavy duty trucks
There were 150000 yankee joe trucks produced which probably falls into the medium duty class being 1.5 tonne and was equipped with the 235 motor .
