Something that I was wondering about, maybe someone here has the answer.
As far as emergency foreign aid goes, does the government have an amount on hand or a budgetary amount set aside for such situations?
The reason that I ask is that I think it is almost criminal how we can spend millions of dollars aiding countries that we will never get paid back for, yet if a charitable group wants money here its a "federal case". Going back to an earlier comment, charity should begin at home. We have thousands of homeless and needy persons here who could sure use some help from the feds, yet they haven't the money to increase spending on domestic social programs. Funny how they can pull millions out of their hat when a foreign country demands help...Considering it is our money paid through ridiculously high taxes.
