Sounds like you’re doing it right, then
(Unlike someone I know who paints his vehicles in whatever shade of military green he likes.) It’s just that the way you said it made me think you used the USAAF colour on a ground vehicle, which is something a lot of modellers do because they’re confused about olive drab, and model paint manufacturers are too.
