Not very relevant in this thread but here was my approach on an over bore.

I couldnt find a 4 inch stroke crank for my carrier engine (long stroke equals more low down torque) so, (second best option)I bought and installed Ross forged pistons 3 5/16"dia. which is an 1/8" over bore, however pistons are available in 3 7/16" (and maybe even more?) I didn't want to risk it any bigger than that. I am very happy with my motor (C59), now a few years down the track.
As a side note: Bigger dia. pistons equal a bigger (and higher) dome. This meant I had to measure each combustion chamber at the squish area and have the heads machined to suit. This gave me the highest C.R. without buying after market heads.

As you would know Mike, a lot comes into it. Liners, no liners, offset castings, corrosion, plus more. What you get away with in one block, the next guy doesn't......
