The overstamping is interesting - a production line error or a later change.
The AWM records have a carrier listed with the hull No 284A. I haven't heard of "A" suffixes on carriers and wonder ifd this may be a poorly stamped "4". It is listed as an LP2, so 284 might be the correct hull number, so it begs the question, why the "A"? A replacement or rebuilt hull? Could it indicate an LP2 that was converted to LP2A spec?
