Splash or Air Flow Shields
Hi Jordan
My hunch is that they are splash or Air Flow Shields, with two possible locations.
Either side of the of the engine lower frame rails. Intent to reduce water mud from splashing up into the engine compartment. As lower shields the possition would also force the air flow from the fan to travel all the way to the rear of the engine. Noticing the little pairs of holes along the edge would indicate that there was either felt or canvas attached along that edge.
Other possible location and purpose is as air flow shield up around the radiator to improve cooling.
Now my basis for the first, if they are in deed Chevy CMP parts, is on the is that my HUP came with two left over bits stashed in the tool box, which after much searching the bolt holes looked like they fitted on the frame rails to close of the space. When I tried to put them back they were very hard to get into position, and would make service of anything behind and above very difficult. Given the condition of the shields I found they had been removed very early in the life of my HUP and only stayed with the HUP because of the large box to store stuff that might be needed. Will look for the shields I have to measure and photograph.
Nice puzzle Jordan.
Cheers Phil
