Lord's Prayer parody?
Hello all,
While transcribing the 1944-45 diary of a CAC trooper this past fall I came across a nearly invisible entry on the very last page. Written in pencil and rubbing on the inside back cover, the markings are now extremely faint. However, after scanning this page all evening I believe I have made out most of the page and it seems to be some sort of parody of the "Lord's prayer". Has anybody come across this verse before, or did my trooper write it himself in a bored moment?
Here is what I can make out so far, parenthesis are my best guess, asterisks are complete invisibles:
Our (Prime) Minister
(Who) art in Ottawa
King be thy name
(W)*** T******* come
Thy will be done in Ottawa
As it is in Regina
(Give) us this day
our deferred pay
And forgive us an AWOL
As we (forgive) the Fifth *****
That striketh against us
And led us not into (Harm)
But deliver us from the Huns
For this is the **** power
The Liberty and War Loans
(For)ever and ever
What a (war)
Perhaps somebody here recognizes this? Hope you can help. Thanks.
Bill.
