Default Another one goes to a new home. 1941 F60L Cont...

The Recuperator Service Body is a full sealed air-conditioned workshop to service the recuperators for the 25 pounders and other big guns in a dust free environment. Originally behind the truck cabin, under the veranda roof there was a 3 stage ‘RIX’ compressor powered by a 4 cylinder engine. This compressor could boost the air storage to 3,000 psi. The air storage was in bottles like oxy bottles stored down each side. A gantry slides out the back to enable the recuperators to be brought on board and set up on trestles for servicing.

The spare wheel hides in this locker on the left. I would not want to have to lift it up to close the locker door.

The interior still has many of the original fittings and lights.

One original mirror was still fitted on the left and I provided the correct head lamp shells and tow hook to the new owner.

In at least three places there is this number scratched into the lining. Does it mean No.8 body of 41 built or was it built in August 1941?

I am pleased to pass it on to the new owner.

I still have my 1940 FORD F30S 134" wb. cab chassis to find a new home for.

Regards Rick.
