Robin I have used UShip many times to have items moved. Everything from a small crate to whole vehicles.
It can be a challenge sometimes to find the right deal but I have always ended up with good service for a fair price. Never had any issues and have even used them for US/Canada cross border moves. Usually I will have US based carrier drop at a US address and pick up myself.
The main advantage of this service is getting large, heavy or otherwise bulky items moved reasonably, especially when the cost is prohibitive via Post or Courier.
Some examples of prices I have paid:
I had a 2-1/2 Ton transmission shipped from Louisiana to Buffalo for $125.00USD.
I brought my M725 Kaiser Jeep from Ohio to Guelph for $1000CAN and the carrier took care of the brokerage and Customs issues.
Hoist and Parts for my M6 Chev bomb truck from TX to MI for $300USD

The nice thing is if you find a good shipper you can always keep them as a contact for later outside of UShip.
