The No. 36 Grenade Box I saw was about twice the length of that bracket, Jesse. I suspect it was a shipping chest used to move the grenades from point of manufacture to the location of the primary users. At that point the fuses would be installed in the grenades and they would be placed into whatever storage items required. At that point the chest was very likely tossed aside.

Not that familiar with the crew requirements for something like the Sexton, so anyone with artillery experience please fill in the details. Would the Sexton crew be issued with standard fragmentation grenades like the No. 36 Mills for defensive purposes? Another option coming to mind could be smoke grenades for cover.

On a similar note, what would the Mortar Crew in a Universal Carrier be equipped with as far as grenades go? Perhaps the same box was issued in both situations?
