Mk-II* is a mechanical starter, with dedicated linkage into the front compartment. The dash board is specific to the MK-II*, when compared with a MK-I* that has a dash board installed push button.
Without knowing the extent of your existing parts, it is a challenge to answer your question. If I were in your shoes with a MK-II*, I would install the complete original starter assembly.
