They were the same. All that I can remember had the USMC stamped on them, along with a date.
The first change in cans that I recall was in the early 80s when some green "Reliable" brand containers entered service. They were more of an off-the-shelf item, and did not go into widespread use. A few years later the Scepter brand cans, spouts and accessories came out, which the Americans seem to have now adopted.
There are hundreds of cans from Cdn service out at my favorite scrapyard.
