This Cat was flown from France last year and is painted as a RAAF Black Cat which is all very nice but in 38c heat turns into a major sauna on the ground.








The footage of it landing is a spectacular cloud of locusts. You can see some of the strikes here.

The Cat belongs to HARS in New South Wales and was flown by Gordon "Gordo" Glynn who is a very experienced warbird pilot.

Gordo commented the air was clear until the flare in landing then there was a lot of noise and he lost forward vision.

There were two reasons flying was cancelled, one being the safety aspect - if a locust clogs a pitot head you lose the airspeed indicator, and they can also clog intakes and inhibit cooling. (I saw a number of cars pulled over with the bonnets (hoods) up) The other reason is the hundreds of hours cleaning the aircraft. Disappointing, but it looks like I'll have to wait until next year to fly in the Hudson.
