That is a ferret plate judging by the CFR. Yep...just looked it up and it is the ferret in the Borden Museum.

There was actually a modification instruction for the plate you show. Because "DND" means nothing if the vehicle went to Germany or elsewhere overseas, there was a plate that was supposed to be riveted over the DND with the word Canada, and two red maple leafs would be affixed to the corners.

Later the CANADA was embossed in that location. Again, two red maple leafs decals were stuck to the top corners of the plate. Originally, the leaf decals were cut exactly like the shape of the leaf. In the late 80s they went to a "home plate" shaped decal in white with the red maple leaf on it. I knew one of the young ladies in major equipment who used to cut out the maple leaf from the decal so it would look better. We got paid by the year, and it was pensionable.
