Default Making new 20 in. CMP wheels.....

Hi Phil / Joao

Those wheels were stamped in a huge press at GM ...later Kelsey Hayes.....

The press was over 3 story tall and...correct me if I am wrong.... hit a flat disc with 1200 tons....... the flywheel of the press reached below the floor into the basement.

There was a picture of that press in a GM publication and I beleive a copy of it was on MLU.... but as usual I can't find it.

So with all due respect two wheels shipped by air express from British Columbia would be cheaper than trying to replicate these wheel today.

The CMP wheels/rims are approx. 1/4 inch thick and on the later British armored vehicles .... ie Saladin, closer to 3/8 inch....... now that take some pounding.

Added info..... I have found a picture of a wheel stamping press in a GM publication....but my scanner is acting up... in any event the press is only the height of 3 men adn I believe they are stamping civilian wheel and not CMP .... in any event it is not the one I was referring to... still digging.

Cheers

Bob C
