To the best of my knowledge Bob that's what they are there for. Interesting to note they are not on most drop side bodies I have seen.

Somewhere on this forum there is an example and even shows the timber poles that were issued and where they were stored on the truck.

Tires are ex-army unimog, 18 ply rating and good on the road if your wheel alignment is OK.
