Default Beacon

Thanks Pete! There is no listing I can find under 'Brockhouse' [not Brockway...Freudian slip as this nutter I know keeps ringing me up asking if I know about Brockway trucks] at this juncture but they may have been allocated an RAF Census Number and thus do not appear on my WD listing. After I read your comment I immediately went to my 'An Account of Our Stewardship' book, the 1946 Vauxhall book. Hendon Plant packed an RAF beacon with generator that was mounted on a 4-wheel trailer. The trailer was shown disassembled and then ready for crating, and also being towed by H 4484759...this was in fact a Bedford QLB, in the range H 4483034 to 4484804, to V.3949, 'Tractor 4 x 4 Light A.A.'. I suspect that the truck was used just to show off the trailer rather than an obsolete QLB being re-used.

On the subject of the Willys trailers, well I found them under...'Willys', in the main vehicle section so thanks for that one. I am conjecting here that they were originally intended to be pulled by Jeeps and yet there they are, same trailers being used as trailers behind F60B Bofors CMPs on more than one occasion. Originally the F60Bs were 'H' prefixed as I said, as tractors, but at some point by late '44 they were re-allocated as 'self-propelled' units and acquired 'S' prefixes. At that point I assume that the trialers were allocated elsewhere?

The top 24-wheel [40 ton?] trailer is still a mystery. It was acquired under Demand S/M 6155 but despite a thorough search of the Index listings I cannot find any contract with that number. Any ideas please? Mind you though, no Trailmobile trailers are listed though these could be to Canadian order exclusively.
