Two new articles and book....
For those interested in some historical vehicle articles, I had two new articles published this week:
The first was about the Australian Steam Cooker Trailers (commonly known as the 'Wiles cooker'). It was published in the current KVE E-newsletter.
The second was in the current issue of the MVPA's 'Army Motors' about the acquisition and testing in Australia of a Chinese Communist YW531 APC. It was tested in the mid to late 1970s against the then-current Australian APC, the M113A1 with T50(Aust) turret.
Also just released by Big Sky Publishing is a lengthy work by Bruce Cameron about Australian tank operations in Vietnam: 'Canister! On! Fire!'. At around $60 and nearly 1,000 pages in two volumes, this is an incredible bargain (it was 'sponsored' by the Army History Unit). I was a major contributor and advisor to the author, so I'm looking forward to receiving a copy. Early feedback from friends in Australia is that it is a good, but that the publisher has let the author down in the image printing: all are in B&W and many are said to be poorly reproduced. Shame considering the amount of work Bruce put in to the book. Nevertheless, especially at the price, I'd suggest it is a 'must have' for AFV enthusiasts.
