Hi Richard, Hatkoski not Harrison ,

I was a little bit in a hurry when I posted my reply yesterday. I did not notice that the previous two posts were from different Richards.

To be honest I have no idea how much it should protrude because I have not yet got a cable. But if you measure how deep the hole in the shaft of the gear is than that should give you a maximum size. Careful though! The little lug or notch on the inner cable end should not be hanging on the end of the slit in the gear shaft. But I would think the hole will be less deep than the slit is long compared with the inner cable end and the location of the lug/notch. You can easily check this by sliding the gear without the brass adapter on your inner cable. The lug/notch should not be coming to the end of the slit.
