Warracknabeal saved
Attached are pics of the Yarriambiack Creek which runs through the Victorian town of Warracknabeal, population 2500. Over 100 houses were saved from flood damage by a 7 km levee bank hastily constructed in two days. Richard Wilken, a local businessman organised the work and supplied much of the equipment. Richard is a quiet and humble man but is being hailed as a town hero. Women and children assisted in the filling of sandbags as most houses in danger were sandbagged as a precaution, also all the drainage outlets in the streets had to be sandbagged to prevent the water flowing back. Proves what can be done in a time of crisis by volunteers.
A mamoth effort!
