sounds like a typical mini problem ha ha ha... when i left mine for ages the earths got a wee bit corroded and she would not turn over for anything, i cleaned up all the terminals and voila.....check all your earths matey and i would perhaps give her a few turns on the old crank handle if she has been sat so long. but to answer your question without answering it... i dont know if there is a clutch behind the dog i thought the dog is actuated via solonoid, now this being the age it is would perhaps suggest inertia type starter, I will go dig out my Chillwell service manual there is a section on stripping them down.... starter motors that is....
